Brother TN-360 Toner Cartridge: Installation Problems and Troubleshooting

So you’ve just unwrapped a TN-360 toner your purchased a few months back, to replace your printer’s cartridge which is now blinking empty. After diligently following the manufacturer’s installation instructions, you notice that the LED light on your Brother Laser Printer’s control panel continues to flash. Then you realize that it’s 12midnight, and you’re rendered virtually helpless, as you have absolutely no clue how to obtain a replacement toner in order to print an 80 page report that’s due first thing in the morning.

When such instances occur, one might instinctively call a technician for diagnosis, or buy a new toner to replace what’s presumably a faulty cartridge. While these problems are not uncommon, it’s good to know that most of these issues can be rectified without having to consult a specialist. Whether you’ve bought a genuine toner or an aftermarket cartridge, here’s a list of troubleshooting instructions for some TN-360 installation issues:

1. Your printer’s LED light blinks continuously even after replacing the TN-360 toner and DR-360 drum.

There will be certain cases when you may need to manually reset your printer to eliminate a blinking LED drum light. First, you’ll have to open your printer’s front cover. With your new drum and toner still installed, press the go button or the white button. Hold for about 4 seconds until your printer’s entire control panel lights up. Close the front cover and your printer should now be ready for use.

2. Your newly replaced laser toner cartridge is prematurely showing as empty

If your printer’s control panel indicates an empty cartridge and you’re almost certain (based on previous prints) that your toner is nowhere near empty, this simple trick should allow you to extend your toner’s mileage. Begin by pulling out your cartridge from your printer. You should see two holes at both side of your toner. Use an electrical tape to cover both holes and reinsert your toner cartridge. You should be able to print a few hundred more pages and save dollars without having to replace your TN-360 toner.

3. Flashing Error Light

A flashing error light can be one of the easiest but sometimes also the most difficult of errors to troubleshoot. If you’ve just installed a new TN-360 cartridge, there may be a need to clear your printer’s memory which by now is quite possibly full. Reset your printer by pressing the go button and holding it for around 5 seconds. Turn your printer off and on to check.

If the error persists, check for any paper jam. Inspect both the front and back panels. Don’t forget to pull out the DR-360 drum. Most paper jams occur in the drum and rear panel areas. Torn label and tape can cause serious errors and are often difficult to detect so make sure your printer is clear of any debris.

These are simple troubleshooting tips that will help you diagnose or fix some problems which you might have with your toner or printer. If you continue to experience issues, don’t attempt to explore any further as this may cause further damage. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to call a certified printer technician.
